Our other program “Financial Sense of Cents” focus’s on a leader’s financial wellness. Whereas, YALP/PLAY focuses on their physical and social intelligence. PLAY uses SBYD principles as a foundation that other directed initiatives will be built. Participants will take part in sports and physical activities. They will also reap the benefits of strategic organizational partnership that will educate them in nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.
Studies have shown that seemingly useless playing is not a waste of time. These moments are instead opportunities to learn without feeling like it is a chore or work. We believe that PLAY’s core effects are to 1. increase Creativity, 2. improve Attentiveness, 3. develop Social skills, and 4. aid in Problem-solving skills.
Using SBYD principles we feel that when we try to control play too much, children are not free to learn and explore organically. Our job is to facilitate play and guide it towards targeted goals. At that point play will take care of itself. Playing allows for natural self realization. Participants will then be able to combine abstract and symbolic actions into viewpoints of real life events.
Key elements of PLAY are 1. Active engagement, 2. Spontanaety and Voluntary, 3. Enjoyable and fun, 4. Minimal extrinsic goals, 5. Enguage imagination.
Participants musht have fun and want to be participants. We must be able to appeal to the innr child and bring back the nostalgic joy of the stressless environment of playing. Free play enables learning to have fun with others and being able to learn initiatives through giving the freedom to choose and set rules of games. Play’s programming allows us to give participants variety while limiting choices. Limited choices sets forth boundaries so that all participants can quickly assimilate into a group. Phases of progression are to:
- Sensorimoter(Just start being active)
- Relational(Play with a partner)
- Symbolic(Become part of a greater group)
Healthy lifestyles are the goal of PLAY. We believe that if it is a lifestyle, then it has become a fully accepted habit and a way of life. This will result in awesome people being able to be awesome for longer periods and lifetimes.
